Project Details
Our client is a manufacturer of bulk pharmaceutical substances. They identified a need to duplicate a production process in order to increase the manufacturing capacity of a particular product. To allow this to happen, there was a requirement for a second weighing and packing machine. Premech were chosen as the most suitable vendor.
Our initial challenge was to review an existing purge scale on-site. We then had to design, manufacture and deliver the skid for commissioning within the client’s deadline. This meant drawing a detailed sketch highlighting the network of pipes and valves in use on the existing skid. We were aware that the solution to this project was to improve on the current skid design.
The sketch was passed onto our design engineers who developed a model of the skid, adding all the components as required. We then set about developing the mobile purge skid and introducing changes to the initial skid.
Overall, the skid was developed to be more ergonomic for operator use. We fitted all components within the skid envelope and modified spool dials so they were clearly visible during use and easy to read. We routed electrical cables through the skid frame, using quick release fittings for both nitrogen and air supply. The davit arm bracket was redesigned to allow for adjustment. Hangers were added for electrical cable storage when not in use and all fittings were designed to be easily accessible from the rear of the unit for maintenance.
The introduction of the second mobile purge skid allowed manufacturing capacity to increase. The improvements added during design stage allowed the skid to be moved by one operator to any of the multiple product dispensing locations. The reduced skid envelope allowed increased space for operator safety. The skid was manufactured and delivered within the client’s deadline and matched all client specifications. The completed skid underwent stringent S.A.T. (Site Acceptance Tests) by our customer and was accompanied by a full Engineering Turnover Package ETOP allowing full traceability of materials and units used in the production of the skid.
